Terms & Conditions

What is CulpeperCon?
 
 

Culpeper County Library’s CulpeperCon is a fun, free, family-friendly event that brings together fans and creators in celebrating the importance of stories and fandoms that connect us and enrich our lives. Highlighting graphic literature, sequential art, and comics as a literary medium, CulpeperCon includes a cosplay contest, keynote speaker, games, artwork, graphic novels, demonstrations, and community super heroes giving attendees the opportunity dive into topics these interests.

Health & Safety
 
 

Culpeper County Library complies with all state and local requirements, including, masking, social distancing, limiting attendance, postponing an event and/or canceling an event, if required.

​

By entering, you agree to abide by any current health and safety requirements for entry into this event.

Safety
 
 

Handcarts, Trolleys, Rolling Luggage, or Large Strollers

​

For safety reasons and the volume of people in Culpeper County Library during CulpeperCon, please no handcarts, trolleys, rolling luggage, or oversized strollers.  The Library will not provide security or check-in/check-out of personal belongings.

​

Paging

​

The Library does not have a system to page someone over a loudspeaker or find someone other than for an emergency. Set a time and place to meet with your family and friends and communicate with them via text or phone when necessary.

​

Unattended children

​

Please keep an eye on your children. The Library and its staff, volunteers, and convention presenters will not responsible for unattended children. Children under 11 years are required to remain with their adult at all times.

​

Pets

​

Culpeper County Library allows service animals only. If you have pets or other animals as props in any capacity, please leave them at home.

 

If you see something, say something

​

We believe that all people are free to use the Library and enjoy CulpeperCon as a safe environment free from harassment. 

​

If you see something suspicious, if you are threatened or harassed by other attendees, or witness anyone engaging in dangerous activities or activities that violate Library policies, find a library staff member to report it. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated and may result in the expulsion from the Library.  Library staff members will be in each program room and at each staff desk identifiable by their nametag.

General Niceties
 
 

Smoking and tobacco products are not allowed in the Library at any time.

​

This includes traditional cigarettes, pipes, cigars, chewing tobacco, E-cigarettes, or any vaping product or device at any doorway, entrance, exit, or operable window.

​

Photographs or Video Recording

​

While in program and panel rooms, cameras and recording devices are permitted as long as it does not interfere with the presentation or the presenters.

​

Please check Culpeper County Library’s YouTube channel for live streamed and recorded events.

 

Cameras and cell phone photography are permitted, but please ask before taking photos of those not part of your family or attending party.

​

As an attendee, you may be photographed and/or videotaped by Friends of the Culpeper County Library photographers.  Culpeper County Library and the Friends of the Culpeper County Library reserve the right to use these photographs and/or video in Library publications, media campaigns, to publicize and promote the Library, and also for educational and/or safety purposes (not for profit-making activity) only as edited or unedited forms. There is no financial compensation provided in exchange for publishing and/or printing such photographs. Any concerns this section may be directed to the County designee-event coordinator/manager for this event.

Cell Phones and other mobile devices

​

 Please silence, turn off your devices, or put them away during presentations and activities. Not doing so interferes with everyone’s experience and could distract the presenters.

​

Food

​

No eating or drinking, with the exception drinks in covered, resealable container, while inside in the Library.

​​

Props & Cosplay weapons

​

If your costume includes a weapon or prop, we encourage Cosplay players to keep their props on their person at all times. Be aware of your surroundings before brandishing or posing with your weapon or prop. Toy or prop guns must have a bright orange, obvious tip to show they are non-working guns. Fake swords must dull and blunt or soft (foam). In other words, be conscious of the prop you have and the props people want to see or accidentally may touch. Real weapons are not permitted.

No explicit costumes


This is a family-friendly event. No nudity or partial nudity is allowed. This includes bathing suits, bikinis, or underwear regardless of gender. Proper footwear must be worn. Those with explicit, defamatory, or suggestive costumes may be asked to cover up or leave the Library if your attire does not conform.

LAst but not least...
 
 

Respect the library, its staff, its volunteers, and its general policies and behavior guidelines.

​

You are not permitted to:

  • Run

  • Sit in the aisles

  • Scream

  • Climb

  • Skateboard, scooter, roller-blades/skates/heel wheelies, hoverboard, etc.

  • Steal, destroy, or access unauthorized areas of library property.

  • Sell, trade, or barter on Library property or Southgate Shopping Center. In addition, there is no solicitation of tips, fees, signatures or petitions, or donation requests for any reason with the exception of the Friends of the Library.

​

Respect other attendees

​

This includes but is not limited to: 

  • personal space boundaries

  • touching others without permission,

  • asking before taking somebody’s photograph

  • being courteous about occupying others’ time

  • Destruction, theft, or unauthorized use of other attendees’ personal property.

​

All “Rules of the Library” may be found in the entrance to Culpeper County Library.
